    About us

    The Department of Immunology at the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University is a Nodal Centre for ZIKA Virus testing!

    • The department was established in 1998 with the following Objectives
      • Research and Training Activities (Special focus on specialised areas like Research areas like immunotoxins, cancer immunotherapy)
      • To set up a state of art immunodiagnostic lab for sophisticated tests
      • To work on areas like Transplantation, hypersensitivity and rheumatological disorder, organ based diseases Non Infective diseases like Diabetes Mellitus
      • Various tests for infectious diseases detection
      • To organize training program /workshops for medical and paramedical staff.
    • Department has state of art equipments for sophisticated tests like serology and molecular methods of diagnosis, transplant immunology. Basic equipments for all the immunological parameters are available in the department Elisa technique is being routinely used for screening tests.

    Activities

    • Services available
    • Quantitative analysis of Hepatitis B Virus, Hepatitis C Virus and HIV are being done on government and private patients
    • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is being carried out for many communicable and non communicable diseases and methodologies have been standardised.
    • HLA tissue typing and cross matching are being carried out by serology and molecular methods This method can be used widely in organ transplant work.
    • Complete work up for Diabetics patients – estimation of autoantibodies, adipoenctin levels and HLA of the patients Immunoglobulin profile for the neonates and children
    • Training program is going to be conducted for lab personnel's in ELISA and PCR work. Training is given to students from various universities
    • Regular CMEs are being conducted in the department.
    • Short term projects are being carried out regularly by B Technology and M Tech students from various universities( Anna, SRM, Bharath, Bharathidasan Universities )

      Lab Test being done Proforma for patients sent for lab test

       

      Regular Outpatient clinics are attended by the Department staff at Stanley Medical College and Hospital and Institute of Children Hospital for collection of samples.

      Samples are collected during working days between 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. serum samples need to be sent and not the patients.  Serum needs to be separated without hemolysis and this sample has to be properly labelled.

      Should be sent in leak proof containers.

      Samples are sent as early as possible ( within 6 hours it can be in room temperature, if more than 6 hours it has to be brought in cold thermo cool boxes only)

      The samples are accepted any time between 10.00a.m to 2.00 p.m on any working days Monday to Friday

      Filled in Performa (available at our website) as enclosed should also be sent with the sample

      A formal requisite with the details of the patients and the name of the doctor asking for the test needs to be attached

      Payment needs to be done at the dept itself through a bank Chalan.

      Results are intimated to the patients.

      The tests will be done at a nominal charge .

    • CME in HLA in Health and disease by Dr. Radha Madhavan at the Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University in 2004.
    • Recent advances in Innate Immunity by Dr Bathirunathan in 2005.
    • Dr Bapi Raju on Leptospirosis on 14th July 2008.
    • Accreditation of Microbiological Labs on 09.04.09 by Dr Revathi Director of King's Institute of Preventive medicine
    • Microarray Technique by Dr Vijayalakshmi from Cancer Institute WIA on 22nd December.
    • CME was conducted – ICMR funded on "Diabetes mellitus and HLA" on July 2014 and four eminent speakers has delivered lectures.
    • Participated in CME – Bio techcellence 2014 at Anna University
    • Speaker in the Indo German workshop Orcheopolous meet at Madras Medical Mission in August 2014
    • Underwent hands on training In cancer institute for Microarray and proteonomics
    • March 23rd, 2017 : CME on "Cancer Immunotherapy using Dendritic cells"

      3. Certificate course in Laboratory immunological techniques:
      Duration         : 6 weeks
      Eligibility        : DMLT (2 years) / BSc MLT
      Scope            : Hands on training experience in Diagnostic Immunology (RT PCR technique /
      Coventional PCR / ELISA technique / Nephelometer)
      Details            : Two batches (sessions) per year-January and July
      No. of seats   : 5 per sessions
      Assessment   : There will be an assessment test at the end of training.
      This will be conducted in the University premises.
                            Total marks for the assessment is 100.
      Candidates require a minimum of 50% for passing.
      Examination pattern: Theory- 50 marks Procedure / preparation- 20 marks
      Equipment/ knowledge/ troubleshooting-30 marks
      If a candidate fails in the exam, he/she will have to clear the exam in the next session
      or he/she will be deemed as discharged  from the course.

      4. Fellowship Course in Clinical Immunology:
      The one year fellowship in Clinical Immunology is designed to offer an overview of important
      topics relevant to clinical immunology to improve skills in   laboratory techniques and patient care.
      Eligibility         : MBBS Duration: One year
      Description    : Includes lectures on core topics, one month postings in Paediatrics and Medicine
      and an end of term assessment Examination.
