Department of Adult & Continuing Education & Extension
 
Introduction
 
The establishment of the department of Adult Continuing Education and Extension at Kanpur University on October 24th, 1984 by U.G.C. was an attempt to combat the issues faced by the deprived and backward communities and the need to train adults in social, economic and political field. The department has conducted workshops and training programs in collaboration with degree colleges at different centers in Kanpur. These programs were based on skill enhancement in terms of Rural Development specifically. Some more programs were launched with the following focus points:
  • Research Work: Department conducted some social and educational interdisciplinary research work on issues like: Women Empowerment and Human Rights etc.

  • Training Program: The teachers and trainers were trained on environmental education, adult education and population education. Some IEC material was also developed.

  • Extension work: According to the U.G.C. guidelines, the Extension programs were given more importance in higher educational programs.
Master of Extension & Rural Development
Under the tenth five-year plan and the direction given by the UGC the department of ACEE started a course on “Master of Extension and Rural Development “in 2010, to fulfill the requirement of rural professional for nation building. The balance between theoretical sessions and practical knowledge is the uniqueness of this course. Hence apart from learning within the four walls of the classroom, the students also learn under the open sky – in fields, in villages, in the operational areas of the voluntary organization etc. The course syllabus of MERD encompasses classroom sessions, assignment presentation, symposia, field work, organizational visits, rural camps and dissertation.
 
BEST PRACTICES
Field Study tour/ Rural Camp related to social research and for comparative understanding of different cultures. Forum of teachers and students of the department organize coaching, counseling, seminars, workshops and orientation programmes from time to time. Our students have participated in various activities in International and National institutes & organizations in last few years like; National Labour Institute-Delhi, NIRD-Hyderabad, SOPS-Odisha, John Hopkins University- Hardoi project, Voice4Girls, Breakthrough- Lucknow.
 
ADMISSION PROCESS
All the admissions are made on the basis of entrance test. At present the per year (2-semester) tuition fee for the course PMDACEE is Rs. 0000/- and for MERD is RS. 0000/- (It may change from time to time, as per University regulations). The other details of the courses are:
